One of those thrift finds that completely transformed the piece with just a coat of paint and styling.
I will admit this wasn't a love at first sight kind of furniture. It was more of 'we need something to keep our vinyl player kind of thing'. But oh boy once when it was all done and dusted, we couldn't be more happier with the outcome.
We were constantly on the hunt for a small furniture to keep our vinyl player and records. We wanted to reuse an existing vintage item. So the obvious choice was to repurpose something from a second hand store. Thats how after multiple runs to the store we landed with the vintage Telephone seat.
Things you will need:
Sand paper
Wood primer
Paint brush
Paint
Protective gear (Gloves)
Sheets of paper/cloth to place the furniture while painting
From the outset, 2 things we were very clear about was,
Less effort: given the condition of the furniture was pretty good. All it required was a good wipe clean to start with
After which we sanded it down and applied a coat of primer(Zinsser Bin primer) to ensure the paint sticks well. Since it was a fast dry primer, we had to wait only an hour before it was ready to be painted.
For the paint colour, we used 2 coats of 'Cappuccino Froth colour from Home Depot' that was used on the Arm chair upcycle. We didn't want to spend any extra money on this particular DIY.
Finally we retained the existing hardware, just washed it and used very fine grit sander to take the dirt off and buffed it with a clean cloth.
(From top left - Sanded & Primed, top right - 1st coat paint, bottom left - letting it dry & touch up, bottom right - Hardware polished & final touches)
And it was time move our vinyl record player and records. We also managed to find a space for my colouring books and supplies along with other finishing touches.
I am so glad that we could complete this whole thing for under 8$. :)
This was our second stint with the thrift store furniture and I am glad that it turned out better than we expected it to be.
