Mixed Media art refers to something which mixes various elements into one single art piece.
I love this form of art as it gives us a lot of creative freedom and also I think this is one area where we can go crazy..
So the story goes like this, one usual day I was strolling through Pinterest and I came across some unique doorstoppers and that caught my eye immediately. But unfortunately on more research I realised its from a specific store in Srilanka and that was a bummer for me cause we were miles and miles away from there and I realised we weren't going there anytime soon, so I let go of it and went out and about with my life.
Until fate had it (I know it sounds too cheesy for something so trivial, but lets go with it) my beloved Father-in-law was heading to Srilanka for his month long vacation and he very kindly agreed to get us some of these pieces (250 Srilankan Rupees for each of them was a steal). After another half year plus wait we got it in our hands.
I knew I had wanted to use it as a Wall art rather than a doorstopper and this what we did to achieve it:
What you'll need:
Doorstoppers (duh!)
Canvas (we used this, but you could always go for photo frame too)
Acrylic paint
Paintbrush
Water
Gorilla Glue
How to do it:
-We started out by figuring out the layout we needed to keep these doorstoppers and took a quick pick for reference
-Then we did multiple coat of black acrylic paint on the canvas. Did it edge to edge and let it dry for at least half day
-After that started glueing one doorstopper at a time on to the canvas and again let it dry for few hours. This is a pretty strong glue, so when you try moving them and they don't, it means they are stuck well
Voila, its all done and good to go for hanging anywhere. I am more than pleased with the way this whole thing turned out.
Sometimes when you can't travel as you wish this is the closest we can get to it ;).. now we have got our very own small slice of Srilanka with us and its something we put together with lots of love.
