One of the best things about our move to US, is the abundance of thrift stores that has good quality furniture pieces for a fraction of a price. This is one of those that we stumbled upon. A great rattan arm chair for 9.99$ with full of potential.
The chair itself was in good condition and sturdy so there were no need for any reinforcements. We concentrated on just two things, change the fabric / cushions and paint or stain the wood.
What you will need:
Nose plier Staple gun Scissors Hammer Paint brush Protective gear (Gloves, Goggles) Paint Fabric
We started with the fun part and headed to Jo-ann and picked out this lovely bright flowery pattern fabric. For the wood and rattan we chose paint over a stain and I fell in love with this neutral Cappuccino Froth colour at Home Depot in a satin finish
Started with removing the existing worn down fabric, and what we thought will take a couple of hours tops took us nearly six gruelling hours. We methodically pulled out each and every nail out of this chair using a nose plier and a small hammer, and there were plenty of them. We had to be extra careful with those rusty nails, so wore some tough gloves and protective glass, just in case one of them flew near the eye.
The rest of the process was fairly straightforward, started with sanding down the wood, wiped off the dust and gave a coat of that cappuccino froth.
Let it dry for a bit while we cut the fabric and aligned them to the cushions. When the paint was dry, we went ahead and staple gunned the seat cushion and the back rest.
