In the last few years I have been drawn more to non fiction and coffee table books. And here are a few more from my collection..
All the while you were blooming by Morgan Harper Nichols (Poetry):
My Thoughts: Whilst this book falls under the bucket of 'Instagram made me do it', ;) I am so glad I picked this one. I am slowly starting to explore this genre and what a book to start with, given I have been following her work in Instagram this was a no brainer for me. One more reason I was drawn to this book is its most gorgeous illustrations.
It's such a lovely collection of poems categorised for 'Mind', 'Body', 'Heart' and 'Soul'. Every so often, I just randomly pick a page and read it through.
Summary:
All Along You Were Blooming is a striking collection of illustrated poetry and prose, inviting you to "stumble into the sunlight" and delight in the wild and boundless grace you've been given. Morgan reminds you:
There is a purpose in every season
No matter how you want to race through this day or run away from this place, you are invited to live fully--right here, right now
Light will always find you, even when the sun sets and you sit awaiting the dawn
That you are always blooming in the way you were meant to
Forts & Palaces of India by Amitha Baig, Illustrated travel book
My Thoughts: This book for some reason reminds me of my childhood, I remember browsing through my mom's old history books (she used to be History & Geography teacher) especially the one I vividly recollect is the Peacock throne and the way it was described. So I was in search for a book that showcases the rich indian heritage through its palaces and this was perfect.
Every page in this book is visually stunning and also gives a brief view of some of the prominent palaces & Forts.
Summary:
This book takes us on a splendid tour of these magnificent structures through the whole of India from Kashmir in the north to Kerala in the South. The architectural magnificence and luxury of these royal forts and palaces of India are highlighted in the full colour pictures and detailed essays. Over 325 colour photographs revel in the buildings' glorious details and features, while vivid descriptions of each palace transport the reader back in time into a realm of truly royal experience.
Beauty Water by Tori Holmes, Wellness & Self care
Beauty Water is the latest addition to my existing collection. For a girl who consumes very less water, I was excited to see this book. I like books which combines information along with stunning visuals. There are 50 water based recipes mentioned in this book and I love how she classifies it under different wellbeing areas such as Digestion, Beauty, Detox, Energy. Also the overall structure of the book is well presented. I am looking forward to try out the different options especially the Blue-green Algae lemonade, Chlorophyll lemonade .
The one line that stayed with me from this book and I want to develop is 'Your most valuable relationship is the one with your health, because it determines how you show up every day'.
Summary: There is no better way to invest in wellness on a daily basis than to make sure we are drinking enough water. Holistic nutritionist and wellness entrepreneur Tori Holmes has developed ways to turn the simple act of hydration into a self-care ritual. As part of a timely conversation on beauty by ways of nutrition and supplements, she created 50 recipes for water-based elixirs that improve vitality, support longevity, and aid our bodies’ natural recovery mechanism.
The little book of Hygge by Meik Wiking, Healthy living
My thoughts: This book has been in my stash for few years now, it was a very thoughtful gift from Hari for my birthday. I have heard lot of good reviews about it. Unfortunately I am yet to dive into it completely. I have been intrigued by the concept of Hygge and this book details out it in a simple format.
Summary: The Danish word hygge is one of those beautiful words that doesn't directly translate into English, but it more or less means comfort, warmth or togetherness.
The Little Book of Hygge will give you practical steps and tips to become more hygge: How to pick the right lighting, organise a dinner party and even how to dress hygge, all backed up by Meik's years' of research at the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen.
